THE LAW OF THE NICHE
How will I know when I find my niche? This is sort of like the question, what do I want to be when I grow up? These are common questions and can be asked at any stage of our life. In fact, it is probably a good exercise to periodically reassess where we are and where we are going. John Maxwell writes that when you discover what you were made for, your heart sings “There is no place like this place anywhere near this place, so this must be the place. You have been preparing all your life to enter into this place. What are the recurring themes in your life? Think of all your jobs, experiences, relationships, accomplishments. All of these were but a practice session for where you are going, which is called your destiny.
We all have experienced doing jobs or playing positions that we are not well suited for. You feel like a 5th wheel or a round peg in a square hole. However, when we find our selves in the right place at the right time everything clicks into place. In my senior year of High School, I played Catholic Youth Organization basketball. Other teams had equal or better talent then we did, but we had great team synergy and a wonderful coach. I was one of five starters and we all meshed like a well oiled machine. Our coach had us all in the right positions, taking advantage of our unique talents, in order to add maximum value to the team. The results….we went undefeated and won the state championship!
Perhaps you have found your niche with this company. If so, talk to your friends, spouse, and mentors and ask them for an honest assessment of your strengths and weaknesses. As you work your business, lead with your strengths and develop your weak areas. As you meet with people who have health needs and are able to assist them, or as you train others to develop and go beyond what they thought they could do, perhaps you will find yourself thinking, there is no business like this business anywhere near in the market place, so this must be the place!

Vision and Purpose June 2007 by Traci Grutz
Wow! If you don't GET how important purpose and vision are after reading this... PLEASE (for YOU) take the time to write your WHY, your purpose, your vision and the affirmations to go with them! Remember to put them before you every day and READ them aloud! You will be changed!
FROM God's Ultimate Passion by Frank Viola, pg. 14
"Without a vision- or a purpose- we humans cast off restraint. We go to pieces. We run amuck. We fall apart. Purpose is the father of commitment. It is the mother of motivation. It is the parent of passion. Purpose provides meaning. It instills direction, inspiration, and unity. It also brings fulfillment. Without a discovery of purpose, everyday life becomes oppressive and demeaning. We find little in it except the next thing which is virtually indistinguishable from the last thing. Purpose rescues us from this mundane existence. Find a man who has a clear purpose, and you have found a man with a passion. Find a woman who has a passion, and you have a woman with a clear purpose."

16 Rules To Live By (Bob Parsons) June 2007
Bob Parsons' 16 Rules to Live By
2. Never give up. Almost nothing works the first time it's attempted. Just because what you're doing does not seem to be working doesn't mean it won't work. It just means that it might not work the way you're doing it. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it, and you wouldn't have an opportunity.
3. When you're ready to quit, you're closer than you think. There's an old Chinese saying that I just love, and I believe it is so true. It goes like this: "The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed." (remember the story, Acres of Diamonds?)
4. With regard to whatever worries you, not only accept the worst thing that could happen, but make it a point to quantify what the worst thing could be. Very seldom will the worst consequence be anywhere near as bad as a cloud of "undefined consequences." My father would tell me early on, when I was struggling and losing my shirt trying to get Parsons Technology going, "Well, Robert, if it doesn't work, they can't eat you."
5. Focus on what you want to have happen. Remember that old saying, "As you think, so shall you be."
6. Take things a day at a time. No matter how difficult your situation is, you can get through it if you don't look too far into the future and focus on the present moment. You can get through anything one day at a time.
7. Always be moving forward. Never stop investing. Never stop improving. Never stop doing something new. The moment you stop improving your organization, it starts to die. Make it your goal to be better each and every day, in some small way. Small daily improvements eventually result in huge advantages.
8. Be quick to decide. Remember what General George S. Patton said: "A good plan violently executed today is far and away better than a perfect plan tomorrow."
9. Measure everything of significance. I swear this is true. Anything that is measured and watched improves.
10. Anything that is not managed will deteriorate. If you want to uncover problems you don't know about, take a few moments and look closely at the areas you haven't examined for a while. I guarantee you problems will be there.
11. Pay attention to your competitors, but pay more attention to what you're doing. When you look at your competitors, remember that everything looks perfect at a distance. Even the planet Earth, if you get far enough into space, looks like a peaceful place.
12. Never let anybody push you around. In our society, with our laws and even playing field, you have just as much right to what you're doing as anyone else, provided that what you're doing is legal.
13. Never expect life to be fair. Life isn't fair. You make your own breaks. You'll be doing good if the only meaning fair has to you is something that you pay when you get on a bus (i.e., fare).
14. Solve your own problems. You'll find that by coming up with your own solutions, you'll develop a competitive edge. Masura Ibuka, the cofounder of Sony, said it best: "You never succeed in technology, business, or anything by following the others." There's also an old Asian saying that I remind myself of frequently. It goes like this: "A wise man keeps his own counsel."
15. Don't take yourself too seriously. Lighten up. Often, at least half of what we accomplish is due to luck. None of us are in control as much as we like to think we are.
16. There's always a reason to smile. Find it. After all, you're really lucky just to be alive. Life is short. More and more, I agree with my little brother. He always reminds me: "We're not here for a long time; we're here for a good time."

BE UNSTOPPABLE!
Unstoppable Women: Marion Luna Brem's Story
©2007 Cynthia Kersey
In 1984, Marion Luna Brem was 30 years old-and she was dying. Marion had cancer of the breast and cervix and had undergone two surgeries in 11 weeks-a mastectomy and hysterectomy. Now she was suffering the horrifying effects of chemotherapy. Adding to her pain, the disease had robbed her of her hair, her savings, and now her husband. He walked out saying he couldn't deal with the pressure any more. Marion was left with two small boys and no means to support them. Worse, her prognosis was a death sentence: Doctors told her she had 2 years to live, 5 if she was really lucky.
So, on a hot Texas morning in May, Marion laid with her cheek on the cold bathroom floor trying not to throw up-again. And despite her gut-wrenching pain and paralyzing fear, she knew she could not afford to lie there feeling sorry for herself. Instead, Marion had to focus on taking care of her kids. And that meant finding a job. But she had almost no experience and little formal education-not exactly a powerful résumé to launch a budding career. Plus, she was a woman-an Hispanic woman-which in many people's eyes meant she had two strikes against her. Marion thought only of survival. The words rich and successful didn't even enter her mind.
Deciding to Be Courageous
Where to begin? Susan, Marion's best friend, suggested she look for a job in sales, but Marion worried about her lack of experience. Susan reminded her that there was a lot of value in the job market for the skills she possessed as a housewife: time management, budgeting, not to mention the people skills she developed while being a room mother and a member of the PTA. So with all the resolve she could muster, Marion thought, "Why not?"
Of all the industries to pursue, Marion chose the male-dominated field of selling automobiles. One of Marion's past part-time jobs was a switchboard operator at a Dallas car dealership, so she knew there was good money in car sales. She had also seen firsthand how salesmen talked only to the male half of the couple, virtually ignoring the woman. Intuitively, she knew women were an important part of the decision-making process and believed this was an opportunity. Statistics now reveal that Marion was right. When couples purchase a car, the woman influences the decision 80 percent of the time. Marion recognized the need for car saleswomen, and she was determined to fill that need.
Armed only with her gut instinct and a funky blonde wig, Marion approached the first dealership. "Have you ever thought about hiring a woman?" she asked. "No!" was the curt reply. She heard the same response from 16 other sales managers around town. Yet Marion Brem didn't give up. She couldn't! "I think courage is something you decide upon," she says. "You wake up in the morning and have a meeting with the mirror and say, 'Today I'm going to be courageous."
But her approach clearly wasn't working. So on her 17th try, she modified her pitch and said, "Here's what I can do for you.." After telling the manager her angle on women car buyers, she was hired on the spot! Marion Luna Brem's career in car sales had begun.
From Rookie Saleswoman to Manager
At first, her all-male colleagues embraced the rookie saleswoman. "It really wasn't until I began competing with them, beating them, that I noticed a change of heart," Marion recalls. "But when they see that you're not going away, and not going to personalize their derogatory remarks, then a kind of respect is born."
Brem's first year out, she was named salesperson of the year. Of course, the plaque read "Salesman of the Year," and the award included a trip to the Super Bowl and a man's Rolex watch. Still, it was a great honor and a wonderful achievement. Meanwhile, her cancer went into remission and Marion was going strong.
For 2 more years, Marion was a top producer, but she wanted more. It was then that she approached her boss about a management position. Her proposal was flatly rejected. He said that he'd be "nuts" to take her out of sales with all the money she was making both of them. As difficult as it was for her to leave the security of the established clientele of repeat and referral business she had worked so hard to create, she moved on, believing she would find what she was looking for. That meant, once again, knocking on doors.
After several frustrating weeks of pounding the pavement, Marion was finally hired as an entry-level manager at a new dealership. She quickly climbed the management ladder. Two and a half years later, she was ready to start her own dealership. She envisioned an operation run by women for women. All she needed was a "measly" $800,000 and she was off to the races. To Marion, it might as well have been $800 million.
A Labor of Love
Once again, Marion rolled up her sleeves. "I put together a portfolio on myself. I literally went to the drugstore and got 50 of those school folders," she recalls. Inside, she put her certificates, press clippings, and a biography. Marion called it her "brag folder." On the advice of a trusted friend, she sent the package to 50 CPAs all over Texas-money managers who represented doctors looking for investment opportunities.
Two weeks later, Marion received a call from one of her contacts. It would change her life. The CPA had a client, a cardiologist, who had agreed to become her silent partner. The doctor helped arrange $800,000 in working capital as well as millions more in loans needed to lease, stock, and market her first dealership. Marion approached Chrysler Corporation-and quickly struck a deal.
Now all she needed was a name for her brand-new dealership. Marion wanted something distinctive-and it had to be feminine. She tried several "feel-good" names, but nothing stuck. Finally, it hit her: "Love." "It's the most positive word in the dictionary," she thought. "And it's the way I feel about this project, the way I'm going to treat my customers and employees."
So in 1989, just 5 years after selling her first car, "Love Chrysler" was born, complete with a heart logo on every car. Marion's motto: "It's not just the hearts on our cars, it's the hearts inside our people. We're spreading Love all over Texas!"
Marion's labor of love paid off handsomely. Today, she is cancer-free, is the owner of two car dealerships, and recently celebrated the 11th anniversary of Love Chrysler. Her company is 89th on the Hispanic Business 500 with revenues of more than $45 million.
At the age of 30, Marion Luna Brem had lost her breast, her womb, her marriage.and soon, the doctors said, she would lose her life. But Marion literally dragged herself off a cold tile floor, put on a cheap wig, and took on a world dominated by good ole boys. In the process, she raised two kids, beat a devastating illness, and turned steel into love.
"Sometimes it's not enough to simply knock on doors.
You've gotta knock them down!"

Thanks Felicia - Great Story!
Hi. This was a very interesting message to come across today. Thanks Mike! The reason it was so interesting is that I was just having this conversation with my business builder, Cyndie, today. We were meeting to go over all of her activity she did while I was gone. We spoke about asking questions and how much more you can find out about people by building RAPPORT! Cyndie doesn't have any problems with that aspect of the company but even so I used this very recent personal example:
While in Scotland I had the pleasure of meeting my niece (who lives in New Zealand), Malissa's husband, O'Ryan who as you may recall is from Jamaica. My nephew, Andrew (who lives in Finland) brought his girlfriend with him. Olga is from Russia. What an international family I have!! Anyway, within a few hours I knew so much about O'Ryan and Olga and had already seen pictures of their homelands - Jamaica and Russia. I felt we had become fast friends and I loved hearing their accents and listening to their stories while learning about the countries they are from. This was the first time that my sister and her husband had met their new son-in-law and possible daughter-in-law also.
While driving in the car with my sister I was telling her some of the things I had learned about both of them and how very much I liked them both. She was rather surprised that I already knew so much about them and how she didn't really know anything yet. I didn't want to hurt her feelings but it dawned on me that she didn't know as much because she never asked any questions of them to get them engaged in conversation! I am sure this is a bit of a personality difference between Halina and me, however, I also think that it comes more naturally to me because of my training. I think that building rapport with others is the most fun and exciting part about the business. Most of us in this business get our energy from other people so we naturally generate rapport as we find it stimulating and motivating. It is a nice quality to either have or to learn through doing this type of business. It is a blessing!
I now have a few more places in this world I can visit............New Zealand, Jamaica, and Russia!
Take care!

RAPPORT
Yesterday, Becky, my younger son David, and I were lounging on the beach by our Lake House. It was a sunny, breezy afternoon as we nestled in the shade of some overhanging trees and broke out our books. A gentleman of around 60 years of age set up his chair next to us and we said “hello”. Little did we know that was the last word we would be able to say. He began to talk… and talk… and talk. At first, we found what he had to say interesting, but after awhile we realized this was a one way conversation. Just as he began detailing how his power line crew used to dig holes he announced he was going in the water. He asked us to listen for his cell phone because he was hard of hearing and expecting a call from a lady friend. We thought we would have some quiet time but our new friend continued talking to us from his raft! Now we know that this gentleman was a bit lonely and meant no harm, but if he were selling our products, I would not have purchased any! Why? He had not established any rapport, he had not invested in the relationship by asking us any questions about ourselves.
Today, as Becky and I were traveling home we were listening to a presentation by a Christian businessman. Among other things, he talked about the concept of self awareness and realizing how we appear to others. If we are overly consumed with our own problems and past failures we will never see the need in others. He emphasized the importance of focusing on what others have to say and affirming their self worth. What we sometimes call connecting with others is often called establishing rapport. He offered this acronym on RAPPORT which I found helpful. Really All People Prefer Others Reflecting Themselves. Rapport is defined as a relationship characterized by harmony. What better way to get in synch with someone then by reflecting what they say or think as important. The Apostle Paul had this concept down when he wrote “I become all things to all people that I might win or influence some”
Now it is good to tell your story, whether 30 seconds, 60 seconds, or 3 minutes, because that is your personal testimony and what people remember and cannot deny. However, once we have told our story we need to get involved in their story. We must have a good enough self concept to not be threatened by others and accept them as being significant. In our business this is not optional, it is mandatory.

Also, Congratulations to Sandi for qualifying for our May incentive. Sandi has quite an amazing story. During the month of May, when she returned from XCaret, she had some health challenges that put her in bed for over two weeks. But, because she had trained her team of Business Builders well and stayed in touch with them, they carried on! Sandi achieved her highest month ever of over 8000 PV, which qualifed her for the $50 May incentive. Thank goodness for the this company in our lives!

Mike and I have created two incentives - Here they are:

2. If you are one of our First or Second Level Sales Leaders (Director or Coordinator), increase your PV by at least 500 over what you did in May. Sustain that through June, July, and August. When you do, you will earn $100 from us, which we will give to you at the end of August.
For example: If you did 2000 in May, do at least 2500 in June, 2500 in July, and 2500 in August. You earn $100!! Go for it!! We will have our checkbooks ready!

FINDING OUR WAY
FINDING OUR WAY
Whenever you walk into a large mall or a park you see the handy little map with the red dot that says: “you are here.” At that point I have to turn my body in the direction of the arrow to orient myself. From that reference point we can pretty well navigate our way to our destination (at least head in the general direction). Many times I choose to ignore the map (sound familiar men?), thinking that I know the way, only to end up asking directions 10 minutes later as we come to a dead end or the exit sign. Not to be outdone, women also possess an uncanny sense of direction. My wife once drove almost 2 hours past her exit in Pennsylvania, but it was ok because she was deep in conversation with her good friend Caryn (last names withheld to protect ID).
We all wander about in life at times, bumping into strange things as if in the middle of the night with our eyes half closed. So it is with the majority of people we meet. Ask them where they are going in life and most will stare incredulously and say “I haven’t thought about that, I am just trying to get through the day!” Some people work just to make a living, but we make a life out of our work (hey that’s pretty good, I just thought of that). Our “occupation” can also be a “vocation” thus marrying two often divergent aspects of life. The apostle Paul put it this way; “Working with our hands the thing that is good so that we may have to give to those who have need”. The work of our hands should be involved in something “good” and our company is good for us, others and the planet. We work for a higher purpose than just gaining “stuff,” we want to have enough to give to others.
We have all seen or heard about those wonderful navigation systems for the car. Now if someone could just invent one for our life that would be great. A little voice that says “turn left here” or “you have arrived at your destination.” God does have a map for our life and a grand design, it is our task is to figure out what part we are supposed to be playing. Each life you meet is walking out the chapters of their life as part of a much bigger story. Some are seriously lost and reading the wrong book, others are just on the wrong page. The writer of Proverbs said “there are many plans in a man’s heart but the Lord directs his path.” Perhaps His plan involves you telling someone else about the products this week, showing them the red dot and helping them find their way.

If You Build It, They Will Come

If You Build It, They Will Come
We were in Cape May, N.J. over the holiday weekend. Cape May is a quaint, Victorian town on the southern tip of N.J. (actually it is an island). It is on the national historic landmark tour, and as such requires permits for any type of building or demolition (you almost have to get a permit to cut the grass). While jogging along the promenade with my son on Friday morning, I noticed the “Sea Mist” hotel on the beach front was stripped down to just the old wooden stud frame. This was a beautiful old Victorian home and I am sure it will be restored to it’s original state. What struck me though, was how old and rotted the supporting framework had become (built in the 1800’s). No matter how great it looked on the outside (one of the most photographed houses in Cape May), it could not stand much longer without a major overhaul.
We are not in business to impress people (although Shaklee certainly is impressive) with fancy offices or pink cars. We are in business for strong and steady growth over the long term. We certainly do want to look good on the outside, but more importantly we want to build into people’s lives a sure future of health and prosperity. We don’t want to have to tear the whole business apart and have to rebuild it correctly in a couple of years. So be selective, sponsor and train quality people. Others will be attracted to our organizations when they see quality components such as honesty, preparation, opportunity, and training.
We must build our business with a strong supporting framework, one that will weather the storms and endure the changing seasons. The great teacher gave us a parable of the two foundations. One man built a house on a foundation of rock and when the floods came the house could not be shaken. Another man built his house on a foundation of sand, and when the storms came the house fell.
Our company has stood for over 50 years because it has strong founding principles. Our CEO is building upon that foundation (you can build quickly when you have a good foundation) and the company is growing exponentially. So build your business on a good foundation, with the future in mind and prepare to be an “historic business” that people will admire for years to come.
